Welcome to the inaugural Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival! A four-day celebration of incredible filmmaking and celebration of Indigenous culture.

The Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival strives to foster the creativity of Indigenous cinema and expression while welcoming audiences to learn, listen, and celebrate indigenous cultures together.

Here is the lineup of short films for the 3 PM Block on Saturday, October 10th:

“The Long Walk: A Dance with Humanities”: Six runner-messengers run 330 miles in four days to commemorate the survivors of The Navajo Long Walk and honor the perseverance and endurance of the Dine in “The Long Walk: A Dance With Humanities.”

“Alligator Alcatraz”: When a migrant detention center (Alligator Alcatraz) is proposed in the Everglades, the Miccosukee tribe along with others fight against it.

“Kokum Dorothy’s Story: We can still sing and dance”: “Kokum Dorothy’s Story” is the powerful story of Dorothy (Sekan) Visser (nee Whiskeyjack), a First Nations elder from Saddle Lake, Treaty 6 territory, who was taken to an Indian residential school at age five.

“Waabishki Mashkode-bizhiki” (White Bison): The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, gifted not one, but five white buffalo calves(Waabishki Mashkode-bizhiki) to area tribal nations around present day North Dakota.
