Join us on Friday, April 24th at 7 p.m. for the next installment of “Indie Night”, a series showcasing Miami films and filmmakers, hosted by Rechna Varma, Associate Professor of Professional Practice in the Cinematic Arts Department at The University of Miami.

April’s program includes:

“Chelo”: A short film directed by Rafal Sokolowski which follows a Colombian immigrant and single mother chasing a shot at something bigger.

“Clocked”: In Florida-based filmmaker Noah Salzman’s raw, emotional debut feature, Adolfo Rivera (Germain Arroyo) is an 18-year-old, undefeated boxer from a conservative Catholic family in Miami. Adolfo’s love for this tight knit-knit family is apparent, not just in their time spent together, but in the bruises and broken bones they are willing to endure time and time again in order to help the family pay their bills. While Adolfo may be remarkably talented in the ring, the family’s dreams for their devoted son are far different from what Adolfo has in mind. Adolfo is secretly saving their winnings for the biggest fight of their life; self-acceptance in their desire to transition into a woman. The local drag scene becomes a fortuitous, vibrant sanctuary for Adolfo on this journey of self-acceptance that is forged in blood, sweat and sequins.

A Q&A with the filmmakers will follow the screenings. Indie Night gives the audience the chance to meet the filmmakers and cast to learn about the process and execution of local films and connect with other film enthusiasts!

Admission is free, but registration is required at the link above.
