Welcome to the inaugural Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival! A four-day celebration of incredible filmmaking and celebration of Indigenous culture.
The Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival strives to foster the creativity of Indigenous cinema and expression while welcoming audiences to learn, listen, and celebrate indigenous cultures together.
Here is the lineup of short films for the 5:30 PM Block on Saturday, October 10th:
“Taxi the Empties”: “Taxi the Empties,” is the story of an unemployed Indigenous youth, Madden, given an ultimatum by his father to find work by the end of the day or face being kicked out…his desperate attempt to cash in bottles for a pay-and-talk cell phone card turns into an unpredictable odyssey across the rez.
“Moonbound: An Ancestral Passage”: Saqnikte’ Canastuj, a New York–born astronaut, is selected for humanity’s first permanent lunar colony in “Moonbound, An Ancestral Passage.”
“Brown Boys”: “Brown Boys” is visually poetic and deeply personal, as it delves into the experiences of young Indigenous men, exploring identity, belonging, and cultural connection.
“Lloyd Hurter”: Haunted by his past, a man (Lloyd Hurter) comes to understand that reverence is not salvation, but a dangerous illusion.
“Grand Entry”: Three Native cousins, racing against time & fate, take a wrong turn that threatens their chance to make Grand Entry – forcing them to confront their differences and unite before it’s too late.
“Syppyt Suruktar”: “Syppyt Suruktar (Lost Letters)” tells a story about several friends who fell into a hole and found themselves in another realm, where capitalist and exploitative powers destroyed many forms of life.
“Your Turn”: Reede and Ray examine the games of life while jumping through deminsions in “Your Turn.”
