LUDI | DIRECTED BY: Edson Jean | USA | 2021 | 1H 20M | NOT RATED

Edson Jean’s directorial debut Ludi depicts 24 hours in the life of a hardworking and exhausted nurse (played by Shein Mompremier) who battles coworkers, clients and one impatient bus driver to learn her self-worth as she chases the American Dream in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood.

The screening is part of the South Florida The Ludi Film Tour, which addresses the lack of authentic representation of Haitian and Caribbean communities around cinema. Through the arts, we will empower communities with a keen focus on heritage and place and reclaim ownership of their existence.

Director Edson Jean will attend the screening and participate in a Q&A with the audience following the film.

Tickets are $16 for the public and free to UM students with code umstudent. (Cane Card must be shown at the theater for admission.)

The Ludi Film Tour is sponsored by Oolite Arts, Baptist Health South Florida, The Florida Department of Cultural Affairs, Florida Rising, and Ayiti Community Trust.

Ludi is presented by Bantufy Films.

“A low-stakes slice of life drama, with a high emotional toll, Jean and co-writer Joshua Jean-Baptiste’s script follows the health care worker for a night as she tries to earn extra money for her family back home. During its smoothly paced 80-minute runtime, Jean’s feature debut Ludi is a powerful, insightful critique of the American dream.” — Robert Daniels, The Playlist
