Join us in partnership with OUTShine LGBTQ+ Film Festival for Cocktails and Cinema at 6:30 p.m. Thursday March 17 at the Bill Cosford Cinema at the University of Miami. Come meet local organizations from on and off campus, watch a screening of the romantic thriller Firebird and enjoy lively discussion after the film with a complimentary cocktail hour.
Directed by Peeter Rebane, Firebird is a touching love story set in the Soviet Air Force during the Cold War and based on actual events. Sergey, a troubled young private, is counting the days until his military service ends. His life is turned upside down when a daring fighter pilot, Roman, arrives at the base.
Driven by curiosity, Sergey and Roman navigate the precarious line between love and friendship. Sergey is forced to face his past as Roman’s career is endangered. As the walls close in, they risk their freedom and their lives in the face of an escalating KGB investigation and the fear of the all-seeing Soviet regime.
Tickets for the general public are $10 and can be purchased on OUTShine‘s website here. Tickets are free for UM students, faculty and staff with promo code UMTIX and a valid miami.edu email address.
