Welcome to CINE! 2013, the Chilean Film Festival of Miami. CINE! presents a wide array of recent full-length movies portraying daring, hilarious and fervid stories with fresh points of view, hosted at the state-of-the-art University of Miami’s Cosford Cinema, from November 7th to 10th, 2013. Brought to you with the generous support of the Consulate General of Chile in Miami, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and the Chile-US Chamber of Commerce, CINE! goes beyond the screenings, offering many chances to share and socialize.
POST-INDUSTRIAL BRAZILIAN CINEMA
The Cosford is pleased to host two special events examining Post-Industrial Brazilian Cinema with special guest to discuss this significant, emerging cinematic movement and its social, political and economic ramifications. The examination begins with a special screening of THE SKY ABOVE (Sérgio Borges, 2011) presented by Cezar Migliorin, filmmaker and professor of film at the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Niteró (State of Rio de Janeiro) on Tuesday, September 24 at 5PM.
DON JON SNEAK PEEK
CAC, the Cinematic Arts Commission at the University of Miami, is bringing a sneak peek of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut, DON JON, starring Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, and Tony Danza. The star of contemporary indie classics like the anti-romantic comedy (500) DAYS OF SUMMER, the neo-noir BRICK, and the heart-breaking MYSTERIOUS SKIN as well as Hollywood blockbusters THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, LOOPER, and LINCOLN explores romance, family, and interconnectivity in a one of the year's most anticipated films.
ETHICS FILM SERIES
Launched in 2006 as a joint effort by the UM Alumni Office and Ethics Programs, the Ethics in Film Series provides an opportunity to view contemporary films and discuss the ethical issues they raise. Expanded to include the School of Communication in 2007, and supported by the Arsht Ethics Initiatives, the Ethics in Film Series has become a popular annual series. In 2009, the series was merged with the Ethics Programs’ longstanding environmental ethics program. Screenings are free and open to the public as well as members of the UM community.
DEJA VU: RETURN TO RESNAIS
The Cosford Cinema is pleased to present a new retrospective on the work of Alain Resnais - DEJA VU: RETURN TO RESNAIS - to celebrate the release of his latest work YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET. The series, supported by the French Consulate, includes a special collection of short works (entitled RESNAIS, BRIEFLY) and three presentations on 35mm including the classic LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD, STAVISKY..., and Resnais' English language debut PROVIDENCE.
