BLACK PANTHERS

  • “Varda is sometimes referred to as the godmother of the French New Wave... I have been guilty of that myself. Nothing could be more unfair. Varda is its very soul."
    -ROGER EBERT

Agnès Varda turns her camera on an Oakland demonstration against the imprisonment of activist and Black Panthers cofounder Huey P. Newton. In addition to evincing Varda’s fascination with her adopted surroundings and her empathy, this perceptive short is also a powerful political statement.

This screening is free and presented with The New Florida Majority.

After the film, there will be a panel discussion.
